Our walk together discovering Florence begins at the Academy of the Fine Arts Museum, where we will admire one of the splendid works of Michelangelo. We will appreciate the extraordinary beauty and majesty of the David, the four unfinished “Prigioni”, the second of his famous “Pieta”, and other unfinished works, sculpted with his famous technique, the non-finito. From here it’s a short walk to Piazza del Duomo where we can admire: Saint Mary of the Flower Cathedral with its coloured marble panels in various shades of green and pink bordered by white. The famous Brunelleschi’s Dome, Giotto’s Bell Tower and the Baptistery of St. John which beauty is increased by the famous Gate of Paradise. The wonderful colours of the mosaics that cover the religious center of Florence contrast with the buildings that we discover while walking through the oldest part of the city. On the way our knowledgeable guide will show you the very old city center Piazza della Repubblica and the Orsanmichele Church. Then we reach Piazza della Signoria, the political center of Florence, where towers Palazzo Vecchio. Passed the courtyard of the illustrious Gallery of the Uffizi we are now on the lungarno, the road that runs along the river Arno, where you have the most splendid view of Ponte Vecchio. The tour carries on going to Holy Cross Church, Santa Croce, which is famous as the pantheon of the Italians glories. The church is the largest Franciscan church in Italy and goes back to 1294 by Arnolfo di Cambio. Inside the church the tombs of Michelangelo, Galileo Galilei, Ugo Foscolo, Vittorio Alfieri, Macchiavelli, Ghiberti and wonderful masterpieces by Cimabue, Giotto, Donatello, Brunelleschi and Vasari.
