Description

Our tour starts in Piazza del Duomo where we can admire: Saint Mary of the Flower Cathedral with its coloured marble panels in various shades of green and pink bordered by white. The famous Brunelleschi’s Dome, Giotto’s Bell Tower and the Baptistery of St. John which beauty is increased by the famous Gate of Paradise. The wonderful colours of the mosaics that cover the religious center of Florence contrast with the buildings that we discover while walking through the oldest part of the city. On the way our knowledgeable guide will show you the very old city center Piazza della Repubblica and the Orsanmichele Church. Then we reach Piazza della Signoria, the political center of Florence, where towers Palazzo Vecchio. Passed the courtyard of the illustrious Gallery of the Uffizi we are now on the lungarno, the road that runs along the river Arno, where you have the most splendid view of Ponte Vecchio. With our reserved tickets we enter the Uffizi Gallery, the building designed by the artist and architect, Giorgio Vasari for the first Medici Grand Duke, Cosimo I. In the Gallery we will see some of the masterpieces of the Renaissance following a chronological sequence from Cimabue to Masaccio, Filippo Lippi, and Botticelli, with the sublime beauty of the Birth of Venus and Allegory of Spring. We will continue our visit with Leonardo da Vinci’s Annunciation which shows his passion for anatomy, flight and the sciences, Michelangelo’s Tondo Doni. The Gallery also treasures Raphael masterpieces, the sensual Venus by Titian, and the impressive Caravaggio’s Medusa.
