Showroom of handmade CameoShowroom of handmade CameoShowroom of handmade Cameo

The origin of cameos stems back to the ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome. Cameo, a word of uncertain origin, means bas-relief made through engraving on shells and semi-precious stones. At the beginning of the 1800’s, after centuries of just fishing and commerce, the beginning of cameo production in Torre del Greco counted the presence of a handful of artists who were traditionally experts in engraving on semiprecious stones. It was in this period that the humble shell raised to artistic heigts. The love for everything classical, fed by findings at Pompeii and Herculaneum, helped the establishment of cameo which themes were largely inspired from a collection of divinities, allegories and mythological scenes. A trend to which masters of Torre del Greco remained faithful even when the Neoclassical period ended. Beyond cameos, we have a beautiful line of coral and jewelry. Clients are able to admire our Museum with rare collections inspired from the Neoclassical Period.
