Directly facing the village of Portovenere, Palmaria Island is the largest island of the Ligurian Sea: in 1997, the archipelago formed by Palmaria and two other smaller islands (Tino and Tinetto), together with Portovenere and the Cinque Terre, was designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The island has a triangular shape and is covered with mediterranean scrub: the side facing Portovenere and La Spezia is scarcely inhabited and has gentle slopes and nice beaches; while the side facing east is uninhabited and is characterized by high cliffs overhanging the open sea. With a quick boat ride from Portovenere you reach the pier from where your walking tour starts. Occasions to admire the landscape and to take good pictures will be countless. Free time will be given for a picnic lunch. Return to Portovenere by boat.
